You pack, you say your farewells, you fly to the new place… and then what? Nothing! You build your whole life from scratch. You search for an apartment, go to Ikea to buy lots of things that you truly need, and you make new friends. How hard can it be right? Depends how you look at it.

So what have you done?
How does the song from John Lennon go? So, this is Christmas and what have you done? Another year over, a new one just begun. Indeed, another year over. As much as I hate year end summaries, 2021 deserves one.

Today is the day of the mid-autumn festival. It’s the second most important holiday after the Chinese New Year. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar on a full moon night. During the festivities people celebrate the moon, give thanks for the harvest and eat mooncakes. Man… how I miss all those colourful decorations, the festive celebrations and the fire dragon dance.

If you recollect the song from David Guetta and Kid Cudi – Memories it starts with: All the crazy shit I did tonight, those will be the best memories. If I change tonight for this summer, it will perfectly describe my summer.

As every year today I’m going to the Pride Parade to support my gay friends and the LGBT community. Sadly, I have to say that Poland is not a tolerant country towards gays, lesbians, bisexual or transgender people. Every time I hear or read on the news that LGBTs are not human, that being gay is an illness and those people should be locked up makes my incredibly angry. I also wonder what the driver behind such bullshit is… mostly fear.

Yes, visiting Germany again! Couple of weeks ago I wrote that despite all prejudice Germany is a really cool holiday destination. For me going to Germany is a mix between new adventure and travel back in time as mostly I go to Germany to visit my family in Trier. It’s not different this time. Long weekend with my amazing aunt and fabulous cousins.

Today is a very special day. One of my closest friends from Hong Kong is celebrating his birthday. I would give everything to be there and take him for a steak dinner and drinks. Unfortunately, that is not possible this year. However, Bro, you know I think of you and send you warm hugs from the other side of the world! Therefore, today some stories about people I’ve met on my travels.

Last week my friend broke up with her boyfriend after six years of being together. There were marriage and happily ever after plans but didn’t work out. Now my friend constantly hears: oh you wasted six years of your life and now you have to start from scratch. If you ask me, it is better to split after six years than after sixteen or sixty and find happiness somewhere else rather than suffer in an unhappy relationship. Sooo… what does a happily ever after look like?

It’s the Euro Cup Football finale today. Italy against England. Why am I so excited about it? Poland didn’t make it to the final stage, which is not a surprise nor do I play football myself nor do I know much about it. The only thing I know about football is that it’s a game with two goals that is played by 22 players for 90 minutes and in the end the Germans always win… unfortunately not this time. However, the Euro or World Cup is always a good opportunity for socialising.

One of the incredible experiences you can get out of travel is meeting new people, sometimes even in weird circumstances. This is how I met Alice and Francesco. In Sintra while getting a ride from Pena Palace to downtown Sintra. We chatted a bit, exchanged phone numbers and they visited me in Krakow last weekend. I also had a couple of occasions when I was the visiting part. Visit and get visited is actually a balance between give and take. When somebody hosts you make sure to return the favour as best as you can when you are hosting somebody.
